Instagram introduced a new account type that has many users confused. In the past we could choose between a personal Instagram account or upgrade to an Instagram Business account. This was pretty straight forward and many of us who are creating content like blogs, podcasts, live streams or YouTube videos settled in with a Business account even though many of us don't actually have a “business” in the true sense of the word!
Enter: Instagram Creator Accounts
Instagram first introduced creator accounts to a limited number of users in a beta test. After a test period the availability for the creator account option was more fully rolled out and now every user has the option to switch and have access to all the perks.
Before we dive into the pros and cons of Instagram Creator accounts, let's talk about what I like to call; The 5 channels of Instagram. They are:
- The Instagram Feed
- Instagram Stories [and Highlights]
- Your IGTV Channel
- Instagram Live
- DM’s (keep in mind that Facebook plans to merge all messaging platforms one day FB, IG, WhatsApp and Messenger)
Watch this video to see all about them. Or click the play button at the top of the page and listen to the podcast for even more details.
In the podcast, I also gave you a quick update on the gear I'm using. You can see all of my recommended podcasting gear (like the Samson Q2U mic), software and other resources below.
