In this episode of Ms. Ileane Speaks Podcast, let’s explore some ideas on how you can monetize your content – let me rephrase that – how can you make money from all the “high-quality” content you're creating for your audience, so you can keep the lights on! This podcast is all about helping you find your voice as a writer or content creator – and capturing your audience.
Once you build your audience and you become a trusted authority, you can begin to monetize your content. One of my online mentors is Joe Pulizzi of Content Marketing Institute. He's also cohost, alongside Robert Rose, of the popular podcast PNR: This Old Marketing.
…the most critical part of a successful content marketing program is building your audience….Without the audience, we cannot drive revenue of any kind.”
Now you might be wondering how does that translate to solo bloggers and content creators like you and me.
But What Does That Have To Do With Bloggers Like You and Me?
Affiliate marketing is an excellent place to start when it comes to monetizing your content. Another one of my favorite podcasters is James Schramko of Superfastbusiness.com. In a recent episode James shared some of his wisdom on the topic of affiliate marketing.
In How to Get Started as an Affiliate Marketer he goes into detail about why we should promote tools and products that help solve a problem that your target audience is struggling with.
Start with the market – then you can fit the product.”
Most people to do it the other way around – which is far more difficult.
Recurring Commissions
Subscription based affiliate products offer a big advantage. As the renewal billing goes out, your commissions should also add up. Two software products that I'm affiliated with are:
Leadpages – watch my LeadBoxes tutorial here
TubeBuddy – watch my TubeBuddy tutorials here and here
Be sure to use the products you promote so your audience has confidence that you aren't simply promoting something because they offer a good commission. What happens if it turns out that you promote a product or service and it turns out to be junk?! You don't want to lose the trust that you have worked so hard to build. Use it before you sign up! And be sure the product or service delivers on the promise it makes to your audience.
Monetize Your YouTube Channel with AdSense
AdSense is another option you can take advantage of, especially on your YouTube channel (be sure to listen to previous episodes about YouTube here and here). In this video, I share more about the connection between Google AdSense and YouTube and how you can find your earnings quickly.
